JD Pilot Program Student Report

Lin Shuting, 2nd year student at the Department of Information Systems, Faculty of Informatics

The first week of my short study abroad program in Australia left me scratching my head about a different culture and environment, but I found the experience very worthwhile. I gained a lot of valuable experience in the process.

At first, it was not easy to adapt to the Australian lifestyle. The social rules were different, and I was often confused at first. But as I interacted with the local people, I was able to gradually get used to it. I had an image of Australia as a multicultural society and believed that there were no racist Australians, but I encountered racism within my first week there. I recognized that it is wrong to have preconceived ideas about anything. I realized that this is an issue that should be treated with caution when actually going out into society.

Through my short-term study abroad, I had the opportunity to gain new perspectives and grow by confronting these challenges. Exposure to different cultures and values provided opportunities for personal development. This experience is very important in my life. The lessons I learned through studying abroad will be useful in my future.

I enjoyed biking on Rottnest Island. Our goal was to complete one lap around the island.

Cycling around Rottnest Island tested my strength and perseverance. It was a tough course, but the view of Rottnest Island I saw at the end was something I will remember for the rest of my life. This experience made me realize that I want to be willing to work hard to achieve my future goals and dreams. Cycling on Rottnest Island taught me an important lesson: if you take one step at a time, you will reach your goal in the end.

However, when I cycled on Rottnest Island, I was able to enjoy the beautiful natural environment. By interacting with nature while riding a bicycle, I was able to feel a sense of coexistence with nature. Cycling also helped me stay physically healthy and relieve stress. I think I was able to maintain my physical and mental health by exercising in nature.

I learned to value opportunities to interact with nature even in the future. I recognized the importance of maintaining a healthy body by actively making cycling a part of my life. It is a very pleasant experience to be able to exercise while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Cycling has great benefits. Not only does it allow you to enjoy contact with nature, it also helps you maintain your health and relieve stress. By actively making bicycle transportation a part of your life while protecting the natural environment, you will be able to lead a richer life. I will continue to cherish the time I spend in nature and actively incorporate cycling into my life to maintain a healthy body.

In the third week of my stay, my friends and I enjoyed sightseeing in the Pinnacles. I was really impressed by the beautiful scenery.

First, I was overwhelmed by the sight of the distinctive rocks of the Pinnacles before me. The rocks were marked by the passage of time and changes caused by natural forces. Hundreds of these rocks together in the same place produced the illusion of being lost in another world.

The golden sand dunes spread out all over the area were picturesque. As I walked leisurely through the area, I was able to get my fill of a moment in nature. I was also able to see flowers spread out across the desert, as well as small animals, allowing me to experience the richness of nature.

I recommend visiting the Pinnacles in mild weather. The day we visited was sunny, and there was a pleasant breeze. This tranquil landscape was perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and refreshing the mind. The contrast between the blue sky and the Pinnacles is a beautiful scene to capture in a photograph.

Walking among the rocks also awakened my spirit of adventure in nature. As I walked along, paying attention to my feet, I was moved by the new scenery.

Sightseeing at the Pinnacles was truly an invaluable experience in which I could fully appreciate the beauty of nature.By spending time in nature, I was able to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and refresh my mind and body. I felt a strong desire to continue cherishing the natural environment and preserve such beautiful scenery for future generations.

I also went to Fremantle.Fremantle is a beautiful port town located in the state of Western Australia. It is a famous tourist destination.

First of all, I was surprised by the variety of shops there. When I walked around town, I saw various kinds of shops that sold clothes, accessories, and miscellaneous goods. There were many shops, and I was also impressed by the wide selection. I especially like shops that sell products handmade by local artists and creators. The accessories I found there attracted me because of their unique design and high quality. I picked up some lovely earrings and a necklace made with my birthstone there. When shopping, I was impressed by the warmth and kindness of the local people.

Also, we were fascinated by this shop where you can get your eye made into a ring, the only shop of its kind in the world. The employee at the store was very handsome and had butterfly tattoos. He served us with a very charming smile and kindly explained their products and gave us advice. The shopping experience in Fremantle was a wonderful one that allowed us to experience the local culture and the warmth of the people. There are many unique shops and cafes on the street, so we could enjoy going for a walk in addition to shopping. Also, since it is located near the harbor, we were able to enjoy the beautiful seascape on our walk back.

Overall, we had a good time shopping in Fremantle. I am grateful for the opportunity to experience the local stores and the warmth of the people, and to have a chance to pick up some appealing products. It is one of the places I would love to visit again.

We also went to Kings Park.Kings Park is a beautiful natural park located in Perth, Australia, and I was overwhelmed by its spectacular scenery and natural beauty.

The first thing I felt was the vast expanse of this park. The large grounds are full of various kinds of plants and flowers and a beautiful garden. What was particularly impressive was that I was able to see plants and flowers that are native to Australia. These plants were novel and fascinating to me and were a wonderful opportunity to experience local nature.

The view from Kings Park was amazing, too.The park overlooks the city of Perth and the Swan River, and I especially enjoyed the beautiful sunset, as we visited at dusk.It was a refreshing experience to stroll through the park, where the scenery changes constantly.

The park also has many sidewalks and observatories, providing a pleasant environment for visitors. There were also educational displays and information panels, so we were able to enjoy learning about nature.

Because of this, Kings Park is an ideal place for nature lovers and people who enjoy the scenery. I had a really wonderful time visiting this beautiful park. I was able to enjoy the natural beauty of Australia, and this experience was one of the most amazing parts of my trip. I am looking forward to visiting there again.

I also went to the zoo.

The zoo in Australia was a wonderful place to see many unique and rare animal species and enjoy the beauty and diversity of the natural world.

What I felt for the first time was the value of interacting with Australian animals. I was able to observe and sometimes touch koalas, kangaroos and other creatures unique to Australia from up close. I was especially fascinated by the koala’s adorable gestures and fluffy body. The experience of feeding kangaroos was also a pleasant memory.Among them, I was most attracted to parakeets. It was a memorable moment for me to meet an adorable parakeet who stroked my outstretched finger.

There were many educational exhibits and information panels in the zoo, where I learned about the animals and conservation activities. In particular, learning about efforts of the zoo to protect endangered species was a great help in raising awareness of environmental protection.

All in all, the Australian zoo was a wonderful place that was both fun and educational, allowing us to appreciate the beauty and diversity of the natural world. The opportunity to interact with animals and learn about conservation activities was a particularly memorable part of this experience. I am looking forward to visiting again.

I found my short-term study abroad experience at ECC to be very valuable and fulfilling for me.

First of all, what impressed me the most was the improvement in my language skills. In my ECC classes, I had the opportunity to study with teachers who are native speakers. They were very enthusiastic and always supported us to learn accurate pronunciation and grammar. I was also able to interact with students of different nationalities in the class, allowing me to learn about the culture and ideas of many countries. As a result, my speaking and language skills have improved dramatically.

Furthermore, I had many opportunities to use English in my daily life while I was studying abroad.Through communication with my host family, I naturally got into the habit of using English. I was nervous at first, but I gradually gained confidence and was able to engage in daily conversation smoothly. This was a great achievement for me, and I can say it was the most significant outcome of studying abroad.

Although my short-term study abroad experience at ECC was limited in terms of time, it was an important experience for my personal development and one that I will remember for the rest of my life. I expect to have more opportunities to make use of my English in the future, so I intend to continue studying English diligently going forward.

I had an opportunity to visit ECC’s Joondalup campus and take a look at many of the labs. Among them, I was most fascinated by the security lab. I was amazed at the facilities of this lab. With all the latest technology and advanced equipment, it provided an exceptional learning environment.

I was also impressed with the student support system on the campus. It provides support for a wide range of needs, from entertainment to research. The campus provided the resources and activities necessary for students to focus on their academics and the environment necessary for them to succeed.

I was especially impressed by the abundance of entertainment facilities and club activities. These activities provide students with opportunities to have fun and refresh themselves when they are tired from their studies or want to relax.Ample support is provided for research, as well as plenty of opportunities for guidance and advice from faculty and experts.

I was convinced that the campus is a great place for students to develop themselves and succeed. The security lab and the wide range of support systems help improve students’ learning experiences and prepare them for their future. My experience on this campus was deeply impactful, and I would recommend it to future students.

I am going to talk about what I have learned during the program. In my opinion, the best thing about studying in Perth/at ECU is the environment. I need to use English all the time, which has greatly improved my English-speaking skills. One similarity I have noticed between ECU and TCU is the amount of homework. However, there is a difference in the approach to learning as we are more encouraged to discuss and share ideas in ECU than when I am in TCU. The teaching style here is a little bit different. Moving forward, my next study plan is to read an English novel. I believe that environment and reading are the most important for studying English.
